The Intercontinental Hotel today is one of the most sought after hotels in the world. Launched in 1946 as International, it changed its name to what it is today one year after, in 1947. The first hotel in this chain was the Hotel Belem Intercontinental in Brazil. In 1960 this hotel brand finds itself in the Middle East, becoming the first hotel after Latin America to establish its presence in the Middle East.
During the rapid expansion phase, there would be four more hotels established in Europe by the year 1963 and in the year 1970, it breaks into the US market with the opening of its Hotel Mark Hopkins Intercontinental in San Francisco New York. The Hotel in New Orleans is launched in the year 1980 as a behemoth of 500 ultra luxuriant rooms.
This is a hotel chain that has spread throughout the world symbolizing comfort, luxury, glamour and a home away from home. The fame of this chain of hotels is owed to the vision of its owner who foresaw that as soon as the World War II would end there would be a boom in traveling.
Acting on this belief, a number of hotels were erected in USA, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Now, wherever in the world you would go you would be able to stay with the same chain and enjoy the seven star luxury treatments offered in these hotels across the globe.
